Atlas Vernacular Hardcore
This lecture presents the living archive of the Atlas of Traditional Ukrainian Housing, focusing on the first chapter “Dakh”—the roof—as reimagined for the 19th Venice Architecture Biennale. We will explore how the Atlas, developed over 50 years by three generations of women architects, bridges heritage and emergency vernaculars, and how planetary principles of local adaptation inform the pavilion’s design. The session includes a walkthrough of the Mini-Atlas guide and discusses the global relevance of vernacular intelligence in times of crisis.
