MATERIAL RE-PRESENTATION

This lecture will showcase architecture that comes about by collecting, altering, and recombining existing things. Involving alternative ways of both using and mediating buildings and materials, the lecture will suggest that architects can intervene in the world through concrete material practice as well as through the creation of fictions.

Daniel Norell, Norell/Rodhe

Norell/Rodhe is a Stockholm-based architecture studio founded by Daniel Norell and Einar Rodhe. The work of Norell/Rodhe ranges from competition winning schemes for cultural buildings to houses, interiors, and installations. Recently completed projects include a transformation of an historical navy building on the island of Skeppsholmen in Stockholm for the Royal Institute of Art, a project that was shortlisted for the Young Swedish Architecture award as well as Design-S award. The studio frequently presents work in lectures, publications, and exhibitions and their work has been included in group shows at ArkDes, Bildmuséet, the 2019 Oslo Architecture Triennale, the 2018 Venice Architecture Biennale, and at the Yale University School of Architecture.

Daniel Norell holds master’s degrees in architecture from UCLAs Department of Architecture and Urban Design in Los Angeles and from the KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm. He is currently senior lecturer at Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg.
